A Glimpse into Spanish Wells’ History
Spanish Wells has a fascinating story that adds to its unique charm. The island traces its roots back to the 1600s, when shipwrecked British settlers — survivors of the Eleutheran Adventurers — made this small cay their home. Its name is believed to come from the freshwater wells used by Spanish ships that stopped here centuries ago. Over time, the island evolved into a close-knit fishing community, renowned for its expertise in lobster fishing — a trade that continues to sustain the local economy today. This blend of history, tradition, and self-sufficiency gives Spanish Wells its distinctive, timeless appeal.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
